Distinction : One of eight remarkable attractions.
Baekryun Mountain is part of a mountain range from Palgong Mountain though Sungsu Mountain, Goduck Mountain and Baekyi Mountain. It is also called ¡°Youngchi Mountain.¡± Baekryun Mountain is named because of its lotus flower shape. It stands to the east of Okjeong Lake and is surrounded by the lake and a stream from Sumjin River. One of eight auspicious spots in Korea, a carp spot, extends from the peak to Galdam-ri, Gangjin-myeon. Once upon a time, someone was digging a grave and found a board-like rock bed under the ground. Two carp were swimming calmly under the rock. When the man lifted the rock, one of them jumped out. The man put the rock back again and made the grave. He is said to have become a rich man after that.
Compared to Sumjin River and Heemun Mountain in the southwest, Baekryun Mountain is relatively unknown. However, Buddha Rock, which occupies almost the entire peak, is unique. There are two more big rocks, called ¡°Sangsundae.¡± The view at the peak is marvelous, with the beauty of Heemun Mountain and Pilbong Mountain, along with Sumjin River. To the east, the ridge of Sungsu Mountain at Imsil and Chungwung-myeon forms a skyline. Sungak Mountain and Palgong Mountain also can be seen in the distance. In the southeast are the beautiful forms of Baekryunam Valley and the Baedryun-ri Basin. The magnificent range of Jiri Mountain forms the skyline in the distance. To the south, hikers can enjoy a view of the Buheungri Basin, which is surrounded by a range of mountains, including Wontong Mountain, Yonggol Mountain and Muryang Mountain. In the southwest, Heemun Mountain stretches to the back of Gangjin-myeon and Palbong Mountain.
